I haven’t posted anything here for a while and since then a lot has changed. Very recently Google has really caught up with backlinking schemes and therefore has made the life of an SEO so much harder. Basically, we can now throw the backlink networks out the window. What was a quick way to gain great rankings is now worth as much as article submissions to directories or web 2.0 spamming, worse yet you hurt your link profile when those networks are deindexed.
The New SEO
SEO is Only About Links
This statement may come as shocking, but in SEO only links matter. A page can have zero content, even its title tag can be off and it would still rank just as well provided it has good links pointing to it.
Why am I saying this now? Because there are too many so called “SEO experts” and “gurus” that preach all kinds of SEO techniques, most of which are complete waste of time. Only links matter. Period.
Do You Need Low PR Links?
One might think that all it takes in SEO is to get a few high PR links but it’s not all that simple. Sometimes a couple of high PR links are enough to get your desired position, but you have to know when those times are and when they are not.
Yahoo, Bing Who?
In my last post I complained how there’s considerably less traffic in Google on big keywords than keyword tools report. But how about the other search engines? Are they worth considering too?
Normally I don’t pay extra attention to Yahoo and Bing because they take care of themselves automatically. You just do your SEO and they all pick you up sooner than later. But how about the traffic?
Google Out of Traffic?
The more big keywords I rank for, and by big I mean 2-3 words with competition in teen millions, the less traffic I see Google having. Recently I talked about why you shouldn’t go for big keywords, and one of the reasons I gave was misreported traffic by keyword tools.
Build Websites for Humans, Not Search Engines
You have probably heard some people saying that you should build your websites for humans and not search engines. Especially when Google themselves are saying it. Now you may be thinking, “great but where do I get traffic? It doesn’t come by itself.”
While that is true, it doesn’t change the fact that you should build websites for real people. After all, it’s they who buy and make you money, not search engine bots.
The Concept of Strategic SEO
Everyone talks about SEO as mindless link building. The most strategy you usually get is from selecting quality links or building link wheels. But there’s also the concept of strategy in SEO. When applied correctly this yields results better than anything else.
Why You Should Not Go for Big Keywords
Probably every marketer dreams about ranking on top for big keywords. But let me tell you, it’s way over-hyped.
First of all, there’s a lot less traffic than the keyword tools show. Actually, on average there’s about 5 times less traffic from any big keyword than Google keyword tool indicates. So ranking high doesn’t mean you will get all the traffic in the world.
SEO and Marketing
SEO and marketing are two different things. Yes, they go together and SEO can be considered part of the Internet marketing, but when it comes to comparing the two they are very different. And it is important to understand their differences in order to avoid doing stupid things.
Is Content King in SEO?
You are probably familiar with the term “content is king” which basically means that if you create a website with good content, you will get traffic and everything will be just fine. Many SEO experts, however, say that it’s just a myth and backlinks is what you need if you’re to get traffic from search engines.
