The more big keywords I rank for, and by big I mean 2-3 words with competition in teen millions, the less traffic I see Google having. Recently I talked about why you shouldn’t go for big keywords, and one of the reasons I gave was misreported traffic by keyword tools.
Google Out of Traffic?
Build Websites for Humans, Not Search Engines
You have probably heard some people saying that you should build your websites for humans and not search engines. Especially when Google themselves are saying it. Now you may be thinking, “great but where do I get traffic? It doesn’t come by itself.”
While that is true, it doesn’t change the fact that you should build websites for real people. After all, it’s they who buy and make you money, not search engine bots.
The Concept of Strategic SEO
Everyone talks about SEO as mindless link building. The most strategy you usually get is from selecting quality links or building link wheels. But there’s also the concept of strategy in SEO. When applied correctly this yields results better than anything else.
Why You Should Not Go for Big Keywords
Probably every marketer dreams about ranking on top for big keywords. But let me tell you, it’s way over-hyped.
First of all, there’s a lot less traffic than the keyword tools show. Actually, on average there’s about 5 times less traffic from any big keyword than Google keyword tool indicates. So ranking high doesn’t mean you will get all the traffic in the world.
SEO and Marketing
SEO and marketing are two different things. Yes, they go together and SEO can be considered part of the Internet marketing, but when it comes to comparing the two they are very different. And it is important to understand their differences in order to avoid doing stupid things.
Is Content King in SEO?
You are probably familiar with the term “content is king” which basically means that if you create a website with good content, you will get traffic and everything will be just fine. Many SEO experts, however, say that it’s just a myth and backlinks is what you need if you’re to get traffic from search engines.
Web 2.0 and SEO
Web 2.0 has been a buzz word now for several years and it continues to be a fad. Even in SEO, people talk about the use of Web 2.0. But frankly, I don’t see such a big deal about it or why I should be all excited.
You see, SEO is all about links as far as off-page factors go. So does it really make a difference where those links from, as long as they are quality links? The only thing is really the quality that matters, search engines could care less if it’s 2.0 or 1.0.
The Bumpy Ride of SEO
Climbing up the rankings in search engines (especially Google) is a very bumpy ride. And sometimes it can be frustrating if you don’t know what to expect. You would think that once you get a good ranking in the SERP you should retain it or the fluctuation should be minimal. If you see your site falling down it’s easy to panic.
Backlink Quality vs Quantity
Anytime you build links there’s a question you have to answer – quality or quantity? You can get tons of links by using all kind of automation, submitters, networks and so on. But do those links give any benefit at all?
You have probably seen many times people posting on forums low quality posts just to get their signature out there. The reasoning behind that is that every post creates a backlink from those forums. But take a look at what kind of pages those links come from. Burried deep down the hierarchy, with tons of other outgoing links. That means the benefit you get is virtually none.
Is Article Marketing for SEO Dead? What Killed It?
Article marketing is one of the oldest and most used ways to build backlinks for SEO purposes. But lately there’s been rumors that it doesn’t work anymore and the search engines now favor the new cool kid on the blog – the Web 2.0. They say it killed article directories. But does that hold any truth?
