Web 2.0 and SEO

Web 2.0 has been a buzz word now for several years and it continues to be a fad. Even in SEO, people talk about the use of Web 2.0. But frankly, I don’t see such a big deal about it or why I should be all excited.

You see, SEO is all about links as far as off-page factors go. So does it really make a difference where those links from, as long as they are quality links? The only thing is really the quality that matters, search engines could care less if it’s 2.0 or 1.0.

Now, there are benefits to Web 2.0, no doubt about it. By its nature it’s the user generated content, the interaction and activity that creates the buzz. And the buzz can create links.

However, is it not about marketing rather than SEO? The links created by buzz is really just a side effect. It’s how you market your content that brings you the attention and spotlight.

And it is important to know the distinction between marketing and SEO. I don’t think most people do. They go out there to those Web 2.0 sites and simply spam them trying to create artificial buzz (or rather just spam mindlessly). That ain’t gonna work. Unless you genuinely provide value and market it properly, all you will get are poor quality links or just parasite hosting.

In my opinion that’s a poor SEO.

  1. Jane says:

Web 2.0 is most simply defined as the movement away from static websites and into more dynamic two way communications with shareable content. Customers can now in real time post a review of your product or service with the potential to be seen my millions through services such as YouTube, Facebook and the multitude of consumer report blogs.SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is no longer restricted to your ability to construct and maintain a current, relevant and optimized website but rather to find where your customers are communicating and meet them there.

SEO stands for Search ngine optimisation, it is the optimisation of your own site to improve search engine positions for chosen keywords and keyphrases, using web 2.0 sites, i.e. social media is part of a marketing sttrategy not SEO
